Dr. Mamata Mohapatra is a scientist at the Hydro & Electrometallurgy Department, CSIR–Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT), Bhubaneswar, where she has been contributing since 2006. She earned her Ph.D. from Utkal University and pursued post-doctoral research at the University of Waterloo, Canada, through the prestigious BOYSCAST fellowship. Her research spans interdisciplinary fields including aqueous processing of ores and secondary materials, as well as the synthesis and surface modification of transition metal oxides, oxalates, and carbonates for applications in water remediation, energy, and aerospace.

Currently, Dr. Mohapatra is engaged in pioneering work on energy material development through urban mining of spent batteries, addressing critical challenges in sustainable resource management. She has published around 85 well-cited papers in international peer-reviewed journals, with collaborations across leading institutions such as IIT Kanpur, KIIT, Murdoch University (Australia), WATLab (Canada), and the University of Southern Denmark. Her research has received over 3,800 citations, with an h-index of 26, reflecting her significant impact in the field.

Beyond her research contributions, Dr. Mohapatra is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists. She has successfully supervised five Ph.D. scholars, nineteen M.Sc. students, and two M.Tech. students, fostering innovation and excellence in materials science and environmental engineering. Her work continues to bridge fundamental science with applied solutions, advancing sustainability and technological progress.
