Prof. Shabina Nishat Omar is Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Directorate of Public Instruction, Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal. She has served for 19 years as Professor of English and Head, Department of English out of which she spent 15 years as Principal-in-Charge in Milli Al-Ameen College (for girls), affiliated to University of Calcutta. She has previously taught in the leading colleges and universities of West Bengal, including St. Xavier’s College and Presidency University and Aliah University. An alumnus of Loreto College, Kolkata, and University of Calcutta, Kolkata, she has numerous national and international publications in books and journals. She was nominated for the International Visitor Program by the U.S. Department of State and invited to visit many universities across U.S.A. to participate in various academic programmes. She was invited as resource person in the first of its kind Online Refresher Course under MHRD National Resource Centre in English Language Teaching in Gujarat University and on Gender Studies in Jamia Millia Islamia and she prepared several modules on both topics which are available as MOOCs on SWAYAM in this pioneering effort in digital online educational training by the Government of India called ARPIT. An academician, trainer, educational administrator, Prof. Omar remains a lifelong scholar committed to women’s empowerment through education.
