Bhaswati Phukon is the Founder and Principal Designer of Halodhiya Sorai – The Yellow Bird, an exclusive handloom boutique based in Guwahati, Assam. The brand celebrates India’s rich handloom heritage through a curated collection of fabrics, sarees, and dress materials rooted in traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics. A graduate of Guwahati University with a B.Sc. in Biochemistry, Bhaswati’s journey reflects a unique blend of science, corporate leadership, education, and creative entrepreneurship.
She began her professional career in Human Resources with the multinational firm Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) in Bangalore, where she spent over nine years handling recruitment, employee management, and payroll functions. Her corporate journey took her to Delhi, and she concluded her tenure in 2016 as Assistant Vice President – Human Resources. Returning to Guwahati, she joined her family’s legacy in education as Director and Admin In-Charge of Blue Bell School, a 27-year-old institution founded by her mother. She is also the owner of Virch, an education app–based company providing end-to-end school management solutions.
During this phase, Bhaswati deepened her research and training in the local handloom sector, leading to the launch of Halodhiya Sorai – The Yellow Bird in 2020, amidst the global pandemic. Her designs have been showcased at North East Fashion Week, choreographed by Neeraj Gaba, earning widespread appreciation. She has also curated inclusive runway shows such as “Unstoppable,” featuring cancer survivors as models. In addition, she presides over Zori Network Group, an NGO dedicated to empowering young women across multiple aspects of life. Her leadership and impact have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including “Iconic Leader Creating a Better World” by WICCI, “Best Women Entrepreneur” by JCI, and “Best Networker” by Boss Network.
